Say, there seems to be some confusion over the which is the SKIL bill and which is the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act (CIRA).
GovTrack lists the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act as S.2611, sponsored by Sen. Arlen Spector. This was the bill that the Senate passed on 05/25/06. OK easy enough.
If I do a search for securing knowledge innovation in GovTack, S.2691 pops up, sponsor Sen. John Cornyn. OK all good.
If I look up SKIL Bill on google though, immigration.about.com seems to think that the SKIL bill is S.2611. Possibly this one site is just confused?

I know many friends of mine, who has done B.E and MS from diferent background (like Mechanical, Electronics etc) and were still able to get the LC approved from a software company since they were working there. There should not be any issue with it.

Hi,
I finished my six years of H1B in August 2008. I filed my I140 with concurrent filing in July 2007. I also received my EAD card (pending I140) but I never used it. The time has come to renew my H1B for the upcoming year. My employer filed I129, which was approved by USCIS. Now my employer is asking me to renew the EAD but I don't want to spend the money. Do I have to have the EAD with my H1B? What do you guys think?
Thanks.

Back in 2002, the President signed a law designed to keep immigrant families intact, the Child Status Protection Act (CSPA). The law includes a provision that states that if a child turns 21 years of age before obtaining a green card together with his parents, his petition would "automatically be converted to the appropriate category" and he would be entitled to the "original priority date". What does this mean? Consider the case of Melvin Cuellar de Osorio. His grandmother, a U.S. citizen, submitted a petition to sponsor his family for permanent residence in 1998. Because of long backlogs, Melvin's parents...

Acting on a request for House Immigration Subcommittee Ranking Democrat Zoe Lofgren, DHS' Office of Inspector General will launch an investigation of the Secure Communities program. [Note: Apologies to readers for inadvertantly initially noting the 287(g) program was being investigated. Secure Communities is similar to 287(g) in terms of DHS entering in to agreements with state and local law enforcement. Secure Communities is largely about information sharing between the agencies while 287(g) allows local law enforcement to carry out arrests and detention of immigrants. The programs are often discussed jointly and both have come under criticism, but as a few...

Hi,
I helping my employer filling the I-129 B-1B Data collection supplement form. In Part C Question 8 Item 4:
Is this the second or subsequent request for an extension of stay that you have filed for this alien?
This application is an extension (for 3 years) for my H1-B. My position in the company is the same as that when applied for my previous (first) H1-B petition.
I have NOT applied for green card/labor certification.
Is the answer Yes or No for this question?
Thanks,
Kishore

USCIS has reminded all applicants for Adjustment of Status, Asylum, Legalization and Temporary Protected Status to obtain an Advance Parole (AP) document before traveling abroad. AP allows an applicant to re-enter the U.S. after traveling abroad.
In order to obtain Advance Parole, individuals must file Form I-131, Application for Travel Document to USCIS. The USCIS cautions individuals planning on traveling abroad to file Form I-131 well in advance of their travel plans (approximately 90 days before) in order to prevent possible conflicts.
We suggest all applicants of I-131 to file it in time to get the AP approval before leaving the U.S., otherwise it could have dire consequences and may result in an individual not being able to re-enter. Therefore, individuals that have a pending I-485 are encouraged to apply for Advance Parole before traveling abroad for easier re-entry if the circumstances of their current status changes.

Hello,
I would like to prepare for the worst scenario that might happen in near future since I only got about two months of H1B
I didn't even know what " RFE" was until I recently received it. From my first H1B app to LC, things have gone so smoothly.. but now I am starting to realize that this could be jeopardize my whole career in U.S if I don't get approved from I140.
When I started my PERM processing last year,my lawyer made sound so easy about getting a GC that the paralegal who handles my case has never told me anything about" if things goes wrong",which I am afraid that it might be happen soon...
If I get denied from I140, Is there a way to extend my H1B ? or any other way to keep my job in U.S legally ? Could anyone give me some advice ?
my status:
Apr 2009 Priority Date EB2
May 2010 I140 EB2 filed
May 2010 I1485 filed
July 2010 I140 RFE
H1B 6th year (exp. OCT1 2010)

Hello All,
I had attended H1 interview in last week of Nov 2007. I had got 221g BLUE form to submit additional documents from Petitioner.
I submitted all documents through VFS drop box in last week of Jan 2008. Does anyone has any idea within how many weeks time we will get some response from Chennai consulate?
I was not asked to submit passport and hence I havent submitted passport.
I appreciate any inputs from any one.
Regards,
Ram

The American Immigration Council weighs in on the importance of the subject: The American Immigration Councils Legal Action Center commends Senator Patrick Leahy (D-VT), Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, for convening todays hearing on Improving Efficiency and Ensuring Justice in the Immigration Court System. Immigration courts have long suffered from crushing backlogs that can delay the scheduling of hearings for years at a time. Additionally, immigrants who appear before these courts enjoy fewer legal protections than most Americans expect from any fair system of justice. With the dramatic and rapid escalation of immigration enforcement policies and resources, too little...
